Key signs/symptoms of pelvic floor and/or abdominal wall dysfunction

What is normal? You just had a baby! Everything feels different. This is a very hard question to answer but recent research in pelvic health has determined the key signs and symptoms of pelvic floor and/or abdominal wall dysfunction. When I complete a pelvic health assessment, these are some of the main areas that I am trying look into:

Urinary and/or faecal incontinence • Urinary and/or faecal urgency that is difficult to defer • Heaviness/pressure/bulge/dragging in the pelvic area • Pain with intercourse • Obstructive defecation • Pendular abdomen, separated abdominal muscles and/or decreased abdominal strength and function • Musculoskeletal lumbopelvic pain

Further assessment must be completed to investigate the significance and severity of your symptoms but this is where we start. As your body is ever changing, some things are acceptable at certain stages and not at other.

If you have questions about the topic of Pelvic Health and telephysio (telerehab, online physio, virtual physio), feel free to contact me or book an Pelvic Health telerehab assessment today.
